Household electricity consumption up 1.8pct January through September (statistics)

The final consumption of electricity in the first 9 months of this year stood at 37.251 billion kWh, 0.4% lower against the same interval in 2024, consumption in the economy was reduced by 1%, while household consumption increased by 1.8% and public lighting saw a decrease of 7.5%, according to data released by the National Institute of Statistics (INS) on Friday.

According to the same source, primary energy resources increased by 5.8% during the period January 1 – September 30, 2025, and electricity resources increased by 4.5% compared to the same interval in 2024. The main primary energy resources totaled 25.375 million tons of oil equivalent (toe) in the first 9 months of 2025, up 1.400 million toe compared to the period January 1 – September 30, 2024.

Domestic production amounted to 12.309 million toe, down by 349,500 toe (-2.8%) compared to the same period last year, and imports were 13.065 million toe, up by 1.750 million toe (+15.5%).

During the same interval, electricity resources stood at 51.345 billion kWh, up 2.228 billion kWh compared to the period January 1 – September 30, 2024.

Production from thermal power plants totalled 12.163 billion kWh, down 479 million kWh (-3.8%).

Production from hydroelectric power plants totalled 8.865 billion kWh, down 2.596 billion kWh (-22.7%), and that from nuclear power plants was 8.042 billion kWh, up 71.3 million kWh (+0.9%).

The production from wind power plants stood at 4.186 billion kWh during the period January 1 – September 30, 2025, down by 443.6 million kWh compared to the period January 1 – September 30, 2024, and the solar energy produced in photovoltaic installations during this period totalled 3.976 billion kWh, up 1.089 billion kWh compared to the same period last year.

The export of electricity accounted for 10.520 billion kWh, up by 2.361 billion kWh. The own technological consumption in networks and stations was 3.572 billion kWh, up by 17.3 million kWh. AGERPRES
