The average total monthly income per Romanian household in 2023 was RON 7,175 and RON 2,872 RON per person, up 11 percent and 11.5 percent, respectively, year-over-year, shows data released on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Total expenditures stood on average at RON 6,223 per household (RON 2,491 per person), accounting for 86.7 percent of the total income, by RON 612 more compared to 2022.
By residential environment, the total average monthly income per urban household was RON 7,961, 1.3 times higher than in rural areas, and RON 3,420 per person – 1.5 times higher than that of a rural household.
Last year, the main destinations of household expenses were consumption (financial consumption expenses and the value of own resource consumption) – with RON 3,860 per month and per household (62 percent), and transfers to the public and private administration and to the social insurance budgets in the form of taxes, contributions, dues, fees – with RON 1,974 per household (31.7 percent), as well as the coverage of needs related to household production (financial production expenses and the value of fodder consumption from own resources) – RON 129 per household (2.1 percent).
The lowest level of household expenditure was for education – 18 RON per household (0.5 percent of the total average monthly consumption expenditure).
