The Friendship Day between Romania and Germany marks a moment of excellence in the Bucharest-Berlin relationship and highlights the dynamic political-diplomatic and sectoral contacts, respectively the „vibrant” cooperation at the bilateral level, within the EU and NATO, Foreign Minister Emil Hurezeanu declared on Tuesday.

According to the Minister of Foreign Affairs, the Romanian-German relationship of a strategic nature has developed steadily in the 33 years that have passed since the signing of the bilateral Treaty on Friendly Cooperation and Partnership in Europe.

„The Minister highlighted that the Romanian-German relationship is based on a common historical past, on cultural affinities and strong interpersonal connections, as well as on the shared desire to build a better European future together. Minister Emil Hurezeanu showed that the Friendship Day between Romania and Germany marks a moment of excellence in the Bucharest-Berlin relationship and highlights the dynamic political-diplomatic and sectoral contacts, respectively the vibrant cooperation at the bilateral level, within the EU and NATO. He added that the political dialogue and multi-sectoral collaboration, both at the level of the federal government and the German states, demonstrate a genuine and lasting friendship,” a statement from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs sent to AGERPRES shows.

Hurezeanu also mentioned that all these developments are taking place in the context in which this year marks 145 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany.

On April 4, 2024, the President of Romania promulgated the Law establishing April 21 as „Friendship Day between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany”.

Romanian-German bilateral relations are carried out within the framework defined by the Treaty between Romania and the Federal Republic of Germany on friendly cooperation and partnership in Europe, signed in Bucharest on April 21, 1992.

On February 20, 2025, Romania celebrated 145 years since the establishment of diplomatic relations with the Federal Republic of Germany.
