ICR representatives organize events that mark Trianon Treaty Day

The foreign representatives of the Romanian Cultural Institute (ICR) mark the Day of the Treaty of Trianon and organize a series of events with the aim of recalling the international context and the unfolding of the events that followed – the end of the First World War, the Great Union, the Paris Peace Conference – until the signing of this emblematic historical document at Versailles, on June 4, 1920, write Agerpres.

ICR Beijing is organizing on Sunday, June 4, at its headquarters, a film screening devoted to raising awareness of the significance and importance of this historical moment.

According to a press release from the ICR, the event is organized in collaboration with Trinitas TV, the Romanian Patriarchate and consists of the screening of the documentary „The Union of 1918”, made by Razvan Clipici, patriarchal adviser and director of Trinitas TV.

In the documentary, the context in which the Treaty of Trianon was signed, its importance and significance in the process of international recognition of the Great Union are discussed at length.

On the occasion of the Trianon Treaty Day and the 152nd anniversary of the birth of the great Romanian historian Nicolae Iorga, the Romanian Institute of Culture and Humanistic Research in Venice, in collaboration with Trinitas TV, the Department of Linguistic and Literary Studies of the University of Padua, the Society of Romanian Studies Miron Costin and InvieTraditia.ro, organize the screening of the documentary film Nicolae Iorga, on June 5, in the Hall of the „Beato Pellegrino” University Complex of the University of Padua.

At the end of the screening of the documentary film, information will be presented about the life and activity of Nicolae Iorga, including his position as president of the Chamber of Deputies (until March 1923), regarding the right to self-determination of the Romanians from Transylvania and his efforts to support policy of the Romanian delegation that negotiated the conclusion of the Treaty of Trianon, the cited source shows.

The Accademia di Romania in Rome, in collaboration with the National History Museum of Romania, is organizing the project entitled „Trianon 100. International recognition of the Great Union”, which will consist of broadcasting on the website and social media pages of the representative office, on of June 4, of an interview conducted with Prof. Francesco Guida (RomaTre University), in Italian.

„Conducted by the representative office, the interview is meant to complement the video material made in 2020, in collaboration with the National History Museum of Romania, an extensive presentation of the peace conference system, with an emphasis on the Trianon peace treaty. Francesco Guida is a professor of The history of Central and Eastern Europe within the Department of Political Sciences of the University of Rome Tre, which he led until December 2018. He is a well-known Italian expert in the modern and contemporary history of Romania,” the press release states.

ICR Lisbon will post on its social networks, on June 4, a collage of images with the Treaty, but also other relevant images regarding the moment of its signing (negotiations, historical personalities involved, etc.). The project is organized in collaboration with the Directorate of Diplomatic Archives of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which provided the representative with the documentary materials.

ICR „Dimitrie Cantemir” from Istanbul organizes the online project entitled „Day of the Treaty of Trianon”, which consists in broadcasting on the social media pages of the representative a recorded lecture, given in Turkish by the historian Metin Omer, on June 4 . In the approximately 5-minute recording, the historian talks about the importance and role of the Treaty of Trianon in the history of Romania.

ICR Paris will post on its social networks, also on June 4, an episode of the film series „5 minutes of history”, made by TVR, with the historian Adrian Cioroianu as a guest. The episode with the theme of the Treaty of Trianon is made in Romanian, and the post will be accompanied by the French translation.

The Romanian Cultural Institute in London organizes the online lecture „Treaty of Trianon, milestone of the New Europe. Reflections on the role of the British Empire”. The guest is Dr. Florin Abraham, director of the National Institute for the Study of Totalitarianism (INST) and associate professor of Political Sciences at the Faculty of Communication of the National University of Political Sciences and Public Administration/SNSPA in Bucharest.
