The chairman of the Alliance for the Union of Romanians (AUR), George Simion, the party’s candidate for the presidential elections, said on Monday, in the presence of several hundred people who signed up for the „Simion Plan”, a housing program „at producer prices”, that he will resign „in six months” if he does not keep this electoral promise.
The contracts were signed at the former Bucuresti store, in downtown old Bucharest, which will be the AUR leader’s campaign headquarters for the presidential election.
„It is the first time in the last ten years that a candidate assumes an imperative mandate, not, as the law says, a representative mandate. That is, I assume by signing directly, I oblige myself before the voters to respect the terms and conditions offered in the electoral promise that I do: apartments at producer prices. If I don’t respect the terms and conditions of this program, I will resign in six months, according to the legally valid contract,” said Simion.
He added that through this contract he wants „every Romanian to be an owner”.
The AUR leader explained that the measure regarding a house from 35,000 euros is feasible, as long as the state gets involved, providing the land and providing utilities and infrastructure.
„Chairman George Simion wants every Romanian to be an owner. At the same time, George Simion wants the largest possible share of the banking sector to be state-owned (…). Practically, for any Romanian to understand, with a current loan, at a rate of 4,000 RON, they will have to pay only 2,200 RON. We reduce them by around 30-35%, the current interest. We want to invest in the local labor market, we want to invest in construction materials, of which the vast majority are bought from Romania. In fact, the biggest advantage of this housing construction program is the fact that the money stays in the country and we restart the Romanian economy,” the AUR leader argued.
