The chairman of the National Liberal Party (PNL), Nicolae Ciuca, stated, on Thursday evening, on private broadcaster Digi24, that, in the event of the withdrawal of Catalin Cirstoiu from the race for the Capital City Hall and if no other joint candidate with the Social Democratic Party (PSD) is found, then the liberals will have their own candidate.
Ciuca said that he spoke with PM Marcel Ciolacu on Thursday evening, and he specified that he had once again transmitted Catalin Cirstoiu to publicly present the clarifications regarding the issues concerning his person.
According to the PNL leader, when the doctor Catalin Cirstoiu was designated as a PSD-PNL candidate, the physician informed the coalition that he had no problem, but he still informed about the report of the Prime Minister’s Control Body.
„He told us that there is a report from the Pm’s Control Body in 2019, but there are no problems,” specified Ciuca, adding that this discussion was enough for the coalition leaders to nominate him as a candidate for the Bucharest City Hall.
Also, Ciuca mentioned that he learned from Marcel Ciolacu about Catalin Cirstoiu’s proposal for the Capital City Hall two days before the public announcement was made.
The liberals’ head added that the PNL electorate does not agree with the support of Cristian Popescu (Piedone)’s candidacy for Bucharest City Hall.
Regarding the PNL action in case Catalin Cirstoiu withdraws from the race, the PNL leader said „We have plan B, we have plan C, as much as I would like to reveal a plan now, I will not. But if needed, the National Liberal Party, to use this phrase, will have its own candidate. We have the human resources to identify that candidate from the National Liberal Party, I repeat in extreme emergency,” Nicolae Ciuca replied.
At the same time, Ciuca emphasized that the liberals do not support the current mayor Nicusor Dan for the Capital City Hall because the PNL is in an electoral alliance and such an option „would be absolutely incomprehensible”, as long as the current mayor of Bucharest does not want to be a member of PNL.
