Romania’s acting Prime Minister, Ilie Bolojan, said Thursday evening in an interview with Euronews Romania that he had packed up all his belongings from his office in half an hour, and the only documents he still needs to take are a few files he is currently working on.

He emphasized that he is prepared to extend his term as interim prime minister if negotiations to form a new government drag on, and says he will ensure the functioning of the government regardless of the plans.

“Romania needs a government as soon as possible in the coming period. Personally, I packed up all my things in half an hour… I still have the current files I’m working on; I can pick them up. So, this isn’t an issue,” Romania’s interim prime minister revealed during the interview.

When asked if he would prefer to remain in a longer interim role, Ilie Bolojan said: “I would not encourage such a measure, because when you are in government, you must deliver as much as possible under the given circumstances.”

“A government in the situation of the one I represent today does not have that option due to legal provisions. And, of course, due to the passage of the no-confidence motion. And it is more important than any one person that Romania move forward,” Bolojan said.
