Interim Prime Minister Ilie Bolojan proposed on Friday, at a press conference at the Government, the conclusion of a political pact, a political understanding to remain in force for the coming years, in order to implement measures in the energy sector.
‘In the energy sector, apart from responding to crises, which is what we are doing at present, matters are addressed through stable long-term policies, serious investment projects and, in general, a predictable and responsible approach. What is happening in the energy sector at present, what I have noted, if you remember, throughout this period of my term as prime minister, is the result of the absence in previous years of a strategy for this area, a lack of investment, the avoidance of responsibility, neglect, if I may put it that way, in many places, and personnel policies that failed to promote competence and results. To correct these issues, measures are needed that I have already highlighted in my remarks from this lectern, but I will outline them once again. To make this a reality, we need a political pact, a political understanding that is maintained for at least several years, so that we can see serious results,’ Bolojan said.
In the prime minister’s view, this political pact should be discussed at the beginning of this autumn’s parliamentary session, in order to adopt certain legislative measures.
‘These are basic elements which, if we have the wisdom to support them consistently in the coming years, starting next year the situation in the energy system will improve substantially, because new generation capacity will come online, and we will reduce imbalances by increasing storage capacity, through both public and private investment. Through better management of the major companies in the energy system, the system will perform better. These are the basic elements of an energy pact, which I believe we should discuss seriously this autumn, once the parliamentary session resumes. Where legislative changes are needed, it matters less who proposes them or who claims ownership of them; what matters is that we put them into practice, have predictability in the coming years, sound rules and efficiency in the system. Then we will truly have crisis-free energy and the best possible price for citizens and companies,’ Bolojan added.
