This year, Romania will enter the Schengen area, with land borders, but will not have US visas, prime minister Marcel Ciolacu on Sunday evening told the Antena3 private television broadcaster.
„I am firmly convinced that we will enter land Schengen this year. Yes, I am convinced that this year we will enter. (…) You saw that we also had discussions with the chancellor (Austrian, ed. n.), we had with Hungary, too, we have been talking about Schengen for 13 years. I have managed, with the Romanian Government, to enter partially, but with the right foot, also by air and sea – very important by sea, we all understand what and how, the investments, and what the Port of Constanta means at this moment, strategically, for Romania and for the whole of Europe, what an open door,” Ciolacu said.
But, Ciolacu added that he is firmly convinced that in October our country will not have a Visa Waiver with the United States, because, he stressed, „The fiscal year in the United States ends in September. I am firmly convinced that in October, the latest, we will not have visas with the United States, we really need a further mobilization on the part of the Romanians to renew their visas, which have a short period until they expire, but we really need a mobilization of the Romanians and we have to understand that now is a historical moment in which we must get involved.”
