Immigration police identified 195 foreign nationals in an illegal situation during the month of June and 421 administrative sanctions were issued to both individuals and legal entities for those irregularities.

Among the foreign nationals found to be in breach of the law, the highest numbers came from the Republic of Moldova – 35 persons, Nepal – 27 and Sri Lanka – 21, with the remainder being citizens of other countries, according to a press release the General Inspectorate for Immigration (IGI) sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.

During the same period, 180 return decisions were issued, and 38 foreign nationals were removed from the country under escort.

„Immigration police remain on duty between 1 June and 15 September, carrying out nationwide operations to ensure a safe environment during the 2025 Summer Season. They are conducting targeted operations and field checks, especially in tourist areas, in places and settings frequented by foreign nationals, as well as on the premises of economic operators when there are indications or data suggesting possible breaches of legislation regarding the status of foreign nationals in Romania,” the release reads.

The main objectives of these activities are the prevention and combatting of illegal migration, identifying cases of illegal stay, and preventing undeclared work by foreign nationals.

Additionally, operations and inspections will be intensified in areas and environments frequented by foreigners, as well as on the premises of economic operators, when there is data or indications that foreign nationals may be violating legal provisions regarding their stay in Romania.
