In the current security situation, Romania focuses its efforts on strengthening the defence capacity at national level and within the allied framework, in order to deter and effectively combat all types of threats, minister of National Defence Angel Tilvar said on Wednesday at the opening of the Black Sea Defence Exhibition.
„This is the second edition of BSDA that takes place against the background of the illegal, unjustified and unprovoked war of aggression triggered by the Russian Federation in Ukraine, a context with regional, Euro-Atlantic and even global implications, both militarily, economically and also socially. In the current security situation, Romania focuses its strategic efforts on strengthening the defense capacity at national level and within the allied framework, in order to effectively deter and combat all types of threats,” Tilvar said.
He mentioned that Romania hosts the largest weapons exhibition in Eastern Europe, a sign that the technological advance in the field of weapons systems and defence equipment is „constantly increasing”, and a relevant framework for promotion is needed.
„I especially greet the 400 renowned participating companies, both Romanian and foreign. (…) The National Defence Ministry has permanently and dynamically adapted its plans for equipping the Romanian Armed Forces, in order to acquire high-performance military equipment and techniques, which would ensure the necessary capabilities to fulfill the missions and commitments assumed towards NATO. The Romanian armed forces have already made important steps in the process of equipping them with state-of-the-art technology,” Tilvar pointed out.
„We aim to ensure the security on the national territory of as much as possible in state-of-the-art equipment, which we need. It is obvious that such an approach is necessary in the current regional and global security context, but at the same time it allows us to preserve and create new jobs in this strategic area. We will continue the collaboration between the Ministry of National Defence and the Ministry of Economy, so as to harmonize the needs of equipping the Army with the possibilities of the Romanian defence industry both in the state and private areas,” Tilvar added.
