Industrial turnover up 3.8 pct in the first half of 2024

Romania’s industrial turnover increased in the first six months of 2024, in nominal terms, by 3.8% compared to the same period in 2023, due to the growth of the manufacturing industry (+4.7%), informs the National Institute of Statistics (INS) in a press release.

According to the cited source, in the mentioned period the mining and quarrying industry decreased by 15.9%.

By major industrial groups, increases in turnover were recorded in the following sectors: capital goods industry (+8.3%), durable goods industry (+4.1%), consumer goods industry (+2%), energy industry (+1.4%) and intermediate goods industry (+1.1%).

In June 2024, industrial turnover rose in nominal terms, compared with the previous month, by 4.6% in total, due to a 5.1% increase in manufacturing. Mining and quarrying fell by 7.7%. Among the main industrial groups, the energy industry (+13.4%), the capital goods industry (+10.3%), the durable goods industry (+2.3%) and the consumer goods industry (+1.2%) recorded increases. The intermediate goods industry decreased by 0.5%.

Compared with the same month in 2023, industrial turnover in June 2024 increased in nominal terms by 2.8% in June 2024, due to a 3.6% rise in manufacturing. Mining and quarrying fell by 16.5%. Among the major industrial groups, the energy industry (+7.2%), the capital goods industry (+6.8%), the durable goods industry (+6.4%) and the consumer goods industry (+0.5%) recorded increases. The intermediate goods industry fell by 1.0%.
