Inflation starts to decrease again; it reaches half compared to when I took over mandate (PM Ciolacu)

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu notes the fact that inflation has reached 5.1%, representing half of what it was when he assumed the mandate of prime minister.

„Inflation has started to fall again, reaching 5.1%, half of what it was in June 2023, when I took over as prime minister. Official data show that our measures to cap energy and gas prices and the trade mark-up on the main food staples have worked. The National Bank of Romania clearly shows that, without these measures, inflation today would have been 15%, three times the current level,” Ciolacu said at the beginning of the Government meeting.

The annual inflation rate dropped in August 2024 to 5.1%, from 5.42% in July, in the context in which food products rose in price by 4.25%, non-food products by 4.35% , and services by 8.60%, according to the data published on Wednesday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
