INS: Employment rate for population aged 15-64 increases slightly to 63.4% in third quarter

The employment rate for the working-age population (15-64 years) was 63.4% in the third quarter of 2025, up by 0.1 percentage points compared to the second quarter of 2025, according to the National Institute of Statistics (INS) data published on Monday.

The employment rate was higher for men (71.7%, compared to 54.9% for women) and for people in urban areas (70.2% compared to 56.1% in rural areas). Among young people (15-24 years), the employment rate was 17.9%.

The INS data shows that the unemployment rate in the third quarter of 2025 was 6%, the same as in the second quarter of 2025. Romania’s active population stood at 8.233 million people, of whom 7.742 million were employed and 491,300 were unemployed.

By gender, the gap between the two unemployment rates was 0.3 percentage points (6.1% for men, compared to 5.8% for women), while by residence area the difference was 7.1 percentage points (9.9% in rural areas, compared to 2.8% in urban areas).

By age group, the unemployment rate was highest among young people (15-24 years), reaching 27.3%. AGERPRES
