Processing units in Romania collected a quantity of cow’s milk that increased by 3.7% in the first ten months of the year compared to the same period of 2023, namely 1.06 million tonnes, while imports of raw milk increased by 44.5%, up to 129,258 tonnes, according to data published on Monday by the National Institute of Statistics (INS).
Regarding the production of dairy products, the highest increase was recorded in butter (+9.3%), from 8,447 tonnes in the first ten months of last year, to 9,230 tonnes in the same period of this year.
According to the INS data, in October 2024 compared to the previous month, the quantity of cow’s milk collected by processing units increased by 4%, up to 99,888 tonnes. The highest increase in production was also recorded for butter (+28.2%), the total quantity produced in October being 1,086 tonnes. The quantity of raw milk imported by processing units increased by 29.2% in October 2024 compared to the previous month, totaling 18,499 tonnes.
Also, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, in October 2024 the quantity of cow’s milk collected by processing units increased by 5.5%. Cheese production recorded the highest increase (+16.5% – 9,813 tonnes). The quantity of raw milk imported by processing units increased in October 2024 by 57.0% compared to the corresponding month of the previous year.
