Minister of Education and Research Daniel David considers that integrating Education and Research (Science) into the National Defence Strategy for 2025-2030 is fundamental to developing a knowledge-based society.
„Fundamentally, integrating Education and Research is essential to building a knowledge-based society. Without research, we risk becoming a scientific or technological colony; without education, a civilisation sliding into obscurantism. This is why I have long viewed functional illiteracy as a national security risk and have directed significant ministerial resources towards addressing it both directly, through measures such as remedial learning and efforts to reduce school dropout, and indirectly, by strengthening alternatives through curriculum reform, enhanced educational quality, and the adoption of critical-thinking and modern learning methodologies,” Daniel David states in a press release issued on Thursday.
In his view, the Ministry of Education and Research is the most important ministry in any country, as it generates knowledge through research, development, and innovation.
„My vision is that the Ministry of Education and Research is the most important ministry of a country, because this is where knowledge is generated through research-development-innovation (RDI) and then disseminated through education, enabling all others to use education to build a knowledge-based society, with an impact on our wellbeing and quality of life. And knowledge is the antidote of our times to the assault of pseudoscience on civilisation and democracy, while functional illiteracy is the potentially deadly virus of the knowledge-based society,” David stressed.
According to him, depending on how it is operationalised, Education-Research can either help a society prosper or keep it in underdevelopment, sometimes even „collapse under obscurantism”.
„I am pleased that the National Defence Strategy for 2025-2030 has included this vision, and I thank the President and the CSAT for their support. The next step is to detail the education-research component in concrete action plans,” the minister of Education and Research added. AGERPRES
