Interim President Ilie Bolojan on Friday said Romania needs political stability in order to make changes and face the situations that will arise.
„We are in a complicated situation, both in our country, coming after elections that were not completed last year, and we have strong mistrust both in institutions and in the political world. (…) And it is clear that there is a significant divide in society; this is a reality we cannot avoid. We also have a complicated situation internationally, where the war that is, after all, nearly at our borders, is unclear in terms of how it will end. We see that, in the commercial field, there are situations that don’t look very good and could influence our economy. In this context, I believe that, from a central perspective, again, we are aware of a few things. To change things, to face the situations that will arise, and which are challenging and problematic for us, I believe we are all aware that we need political stability. This is a mandatory condition, not sufficient, but absolutely necessary,” said Bolojan at the General Assembly of the National Union of County Councils in Romania, in Chitorani, Prahova County.
He mentioned that without collaboration between the President of Romania and a parliamentary majority „in the spirit of fair play and correctness,” stability cannot exist.
„One thing we must be aware of is that we cannot redistribute what we do not have. And for this, I believe we need to be pragmatic and aware, as the prime minister also said, that we need better budget management, which means reforms, which means reducing state expenditures, because without this, which is not easily done, we will not be able to move forward. And this is a necessary condition so that the money saved can be directed into real development, into co-financing European funds, and into investment projects in health or education,” Bolojan said.
Ilie Bolojan added that there is a need for fair policies that will take the Romanian economy to a more competitive level and help it face the significant challenges ahead.
„I believe we are all aware that, in order to project a future that we desire, a prosperous future for our country, we must manage the present. And this present means, including, the presidential elections in May. And each of us, both in this context and in what we do where we are, is asked to do our duty in such a way that we create conditions for our country to remain a stable country, to remain a country that can be strongly represented abroad, to remain a country in which, indeed, conditions are created for development, where we are pragmatic and change things that are not right,” concluded the interim president.
