„Women MPs in Romania and the promotion of gender equality as a national commitment” international conference, organized at the initiative of the Senate’s acting president Alina Gorghiu, and held under the aegis of president Klaus Iohannis, has kicked off on Tuesday in the Senate, with the Cantus Mundi Choir singing the state anthem of Romania and the anthem of Europe, according to Agerpres.
In the opening of the conference speeches will be delivered by president Iohannis, the visiting president of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, the Senate’s acting president Alina Gorghiu, the president of the Parliament of the Republic of Moldova, Igor Grosu, the Romanian premier Nicolae Ciuca.
The event aims to be an applied, convergent forum for debate at national and European level, which will empower the potential of women in Parliament, both in power and in the opposition, ensuring full and effective participation, as well as equal opportunities in the filling of leadership positions at leadership level in the political, economic and public spheres.
At the same time, the conference aims to identify legislative mechanisms that lead to the elimination of all forms of violence against women in the public and private spheres, including trafficking, sexual exploitation and other types of exploitation, a statement of the Senate says.
