The minister of interior, Catalin Predoiu, on Monday had a discussion, via videoconference, with his Hungarian counterpart, Sandor Pinter, in preparation for the meeting of the Justice and Internal Affairs Council on December 12.
„The Romanian dignitary briefly presented the measures being implemented by the Romanian authorities, in preparation for the second stage – accession to the Schengen area with land borders”, informs a press release from the Ministry of Interior sent to AGERPRES on Tuesday.
According to the MAI, in the context of the decision of the Hungarian authorities to carry out, during the winter holidays, targeted checks at the common border, according to the provisions of the European legislation, the two ministers analyzed these aspects from the perspective of the cross-border movement of Romanian citizens in the coming period.
Catalin Predoiu appreciated, during the discussion, the „constant” and „active” support of the Hungarian Presidency of the Council for the finalization of the Schengen file.
