Streamlining traffic at the common border during and after this year’s Easter Holidays was one of the topics addressed by the minister of Internal Affairs, Catalin Predoiu, with his counterpart from the Republic of Moldova, Adrian Efros, via video conference.

„The dignitaries discussed the administrative and organizational measures taken to intensify cooperation activities and the synchronization of forces and means at the border crossing points,” informs a press release from the Ministry of Internal Affairs (MAI), sent to AGERPRES on Wednesday.

The Border Police from Romania and the Republic of Moldova will act jointly and in coordination with the other authorities with attributions at the border to streamline traffic with effective border control and to guarantee the safety of traffic participants.

The measures to be adopted include the use of all available control lanes to manage the flow of passengers and goods both inbound and outbound and, where the situation requires, increasing the number of police officers operating at control of documents and equipment used for their verification.

„The development of the cross-border infrastructure together with the modernization of the border crossing points are determining factors in streamlining the traffic. Beyond the efforts of the Border Police, the interlocutors agreed that it is necessary to ensure sufficient and predictable funding, including from EU funds, for the creation the appropriate infrastructure to allow a border control to be carried out in the best conditions both for the participants in cross-border traffic and for the border policemen,” the quoted source mentions.

Travelers who have planned to cross the border during this period are recommended to check the validity and status of their travel document. It is also recommended to check the traffic at the border crossing points on the website of the Border Police through the Traffic Online application.

The Trafic Online application presents the traffic situation at road border crossing points, the displayed values representing an average of the waiting time for certain time intervals, offering the possibility of choosing a less requested crossing point.
