IntMin Predoiu to attend JHA Council in Brussels focusing elimination of border checkpoints

The Minister of Interior, Catalin Predoiu, on Thursday is set to participate in the Home Affairs session of the JHA Council, which will take place in Brussels, Belgium, where the adoption of the Council decision setting the date for the elimination of controls on persons at internal land borders with Bulgaria and Romania will be discussed.

„Both countries already fully apply the Schengen rules as of March 31, 2024. Controls at internal air and sea borders with Bulgaria and Romania have also been eliminated as of this date,” according to a press release of the Ministry of Interior.

The ministers will also discuss the general situation in the Schengen area.

Catalin Predoiu and his Bulgarian counterpart will exchange views on the implementation of the priorities of the annual cycle of the Schengen Council. The discussion will focus on increasing general security through digitalization.
