Iohannis: People expect a government that firmly maintains Romania’s trajectory, the pro-European direction

People expect a government that firmly maintains Romania’s pro-European trajectory, said President Klaus Iohannis on Monday, during the new Government’s swearing-in ceremony led by Marcel Ciolacu, held at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

„Congratulations to the new government. You are entering a difficult period with new responsibilities. I wish you success in everything you set out to do,” Klaus Iohannis told the new members of the Executive.

The head of state added that Romanians are expecting solutions and stability, wishing the members of the new Cabinet „a lot of energy.”

„I ask you to succeed for Romania and for Romanians. People expect solutions, people expect stability, and people expect a government that firmly maintains Romania’s trajectory, the one established every time the issue was raised in the last 35 years, the pro-European direction,” said Klaus Iohannis.

He reiterated that the current situation is unique in the country’s history, as elections have been annulled.

„We must understand that for many Romanians, there are major concerns. Everyone I have spoken to and about whom I have learned wants stability and wants, at any cost, to preserve Romania’s Euro-Atlantic path. In this regard, I ask you to act accordingly,” the president added.

Klaus Iohannis mentioned two of the major challenges for the new Executive: building the 2025 budget, „a complicated task,” and establishing the electoral calendar for the election of Romania’s president.

„I wish you much success, much energy, much patience, and many achievements for Romania and for Romanians. Happy New Year!,” the president concluded.

The ministers of the Ciolacu Cabinet were sworn in on Monday evening before of President Klaus Iohannis, during a ceremony held at the Cotroceni Palace.

Present at the ceremony were the presidents of the two chambers of Parliament, Ilie Bolojan and Ciprian Serban.

The new government received the investiture vote on Monday in a joint session of Parliament.
