President Klaus Iohannis sent a message on Wednesday on the occasion of Rosh Hashanah 5785 – the Jewish New Year.
„In the tragic context of these days, in which the Jews from Israel are forced to meet this great holiday in dramatic conditions, our thoughts go out with compassion and solidarity to all those who suffer from violence, terrorism and hatred!”, states the head of state in the message presented by the presidential adviser Sergiu Nistor at the Coral Temple.
He says that, every year, Rosh Hashanah offers the Jews from Romania „the right framework for a renewed reflection on the beginning of divine creation, as well as on the responsibilities that we have to assume together, in the family and in society, so that we participate to the cultivation of dialogue, trust and the achievement of the common good”.
„It is what Romania wants to prevail in Israel and the Middle East, as everywhere in the world where intolerance has replaced dialogue, and violence and crime have taken the place of coexistence and peace!”, adds Iohannis.
President Iohannis also affirms that „the Jewish New Year offers us the opportunity to reaffirm our common adherence to an inclusive and just society, a society that values diversity as an ancient and deeply humanistic heritage and that firmly opposes extremism, violence and discrimination”.
„In the present marked by war and complex crises, the idea of the ‘beginning’ brings with it hope, confidence in ourselves, as well as in the solidarity and love that we can put at the service of peace and prosperity”, says Iohannis.
The head of state addresses the management and members of the Federation of Jewish Communities in Romania – the Mosaic Denomination with congratulations and wishes for health, peace and prosperity on the occasion of the Jewish New Year, Rosh Hashanah 5785.
