President Klaus Iohannis said on Monday that he hopes the next election campaign will lead to the election of a pro-European head of state.

„Each candidate has his chance, but he has to use it. This is what the election campaign is for and I hope that this campaign will lead to an election that will give Romania a president who maintains the European path and who takes Romania further, towards development,” Iohannis said.

The head of state is attending the informal Council of EU leaders on defence.
