Joe Biden to host Israeli president at White House next week

Published on

American President Joe Biden will receive his Israeli counterpart Isaac Herzog on October 26 in Washington, according to an announcement made on Monday by the spokeswoman of the White House, AFP reports, according to Agerpres.

President Herzog’s visit to the capital of the United States, Israel’s closest ally, will last two days. The two leaders will discuss „key subjects, especially regional and global challenges”, according to Karine Jean-Pierre.

The visit comes at a time of tension over the future of Iran’s nuclear program, as the Biden administration tries to save the deal that would restore international control over the program in exchange for the lifting of sanctions on Tehran, while Israel opposes its relaunch.

This trip to Washington also comes in the context of last week’s historic agreement ending the dispute over the maritime border between Israel and Lebanon, concluded thanks to lengthy US mediation.
