The Constitution guarantees the observance of democratic values and enshrines the citizens’ rights and freedoms as pillars of a modern democratic society, Justice Minister Radu Marinescu said on Monday.
„Today, the Ministry of Justice marks Romania’s Constitution Day, a moment of profound symbolic value and, at the same time, an excellent opportunity to highlight the essential role of the fundamental law in the organisation and functioning of the Romanian state. Adopted as an expression of national will, the Constitution guarantees the observance of democratic values, ensures the separation and balance of powers in the state and enshrines the rights and freedoms of citizens as pillars of a modern democratic society,” Radu Marinescu said, as quoted in the Ministry of Justice (MJ) release.
According to the quoted source, within the institutional architecture of the state, the Ministry of Justice has the responsibility to contribute to the consolidation and proper functioning of the rule of law by drafting and promoting coherent and predictable legislation, supporting the efficient operation of the judicial system, ensuring the necessary conditions for observing fundamental rights and freedoms and cooperating with domestic and international institutions in the area of justice, in the spirit of observing constitutional values.
On this occasion, the Ministry reaffirms its „firm commitment to continue all steps for promoting efficient and modern justice in order to strengthen the citizens’ trust in state institutions and in the act of justice,” the release mentioned.
