“We will analyze the situation and continue our discussions. At this point, I can promise only one thing: that we will not vote against a government, but we cannot promise today that we will vote for a government. A government without a transparent, coherent, and fair majority has no chance of doing things right to steer Romania in the desired direction. We’re talking about SAFE, the PNRR, and next year’s budget. I didn’t get the impression that Mr. Tomac is extremely ambitious regarding the government program; I didn’t feel that he wants extravagant or new things, but without a majority, it’s unlikely you’ll be able to see things through to the end. “When the government program is ready—he said they’re still working on it at this point—we’ll have another discussion with Mr. Tomac, because we have to make a decision based on the government program,” Hunor said.

The UDMR leader also noted that he currently lacks sufficient grounds to vote for a government in which his party is not a member.

“From a political logic standpoint, it is nearly impossible for us to vote for a government of which we are not a part. It doesn’t make any sense. We need reasons to support such a vote. For now, we don’t have enough reasons to vote for a government we’re not part of, after we were censured by a motion from the PSD and AUR.”
