The Chairperson of the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR), Kelemen Hunor, said on Monday that incidents involving Russian drones in Romania and other Eastern European countries demonstrate that Russia is testing our defence capabilities and aiming to polarise societies.
„Russia is testing the response capacity of countries on the eastern flank. At the same time, through these tests, they want to polarise societies by showing an imminent danger that does not actually exist at the moment. They also aim to show societies in Romania, Poland, and the Baltic states that they are not prepared for rapid and effective air defence, because we live in a different reality. Four or five years ago, drones were hardly discussed. Now everything revolves around drones, but you cannot shoot at a 30,000-euro drone every day with 500,000-euro missiles. The truth is that neither we, nor the Baltics, nor the Poles have deployed a full ground-to-air air defence system with anti-missile guns,” Kelemen Hunor said during a press conference in Arad.
He added that a counter-drone system using drones has not yet been developed.
„From this perspective, there is a test of our reaction capacity and a challenge in terms of further polarising societies in these countries. Romania must react firmly every time, and I am convinced that gradually, year by year, with each investment, we are taking steps to strengthen our defence capabilities,” the UDMR leader said. AGERPRES
