Korean Ambassador to Romania pays visit to „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi

Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Romania Rim Kap-soo paid a visit, on Monday, to the „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi (UAIC), according to a press release, Agerpres reports.

Within the visit, the Ambassador of the Republic of Korea had a meeting with the UAIC rector, Professor Tudorel Toader, Ph.D, with Professor PhD Daniela Cojocaru – Vice-Rector for International Relations and Study and Research Partnerships and with Assistant Professor PhD Oana Congeanu, the director of the ROK project – Center for Korean Studies of the UAIC.

According to the quoted source, within the meeting, it was highlighted the good collaboration that the „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University of Iasi has with Korean universities, started in 1990, through the agreement with Hankuk University of Foreign Studies.

Currently, the UAIC has concluded inter-institutional agreements with five Korean universities. Between 2010 and 2022, there were 33 academic visits to higher education institutions and other academic organizations in Korea, during which students, teaching staff and researchers from the UAIC carried out study, teaching, training, research/documentation internships or participated in various scientific events. Also in the period 2010-2022, a number of 25 scientific works were jointly developed with partners from South Korea (according to Web of Science). Starting with the 2015/2016 academic year, Korean lecturers nominated by Hankuk University of Foreign Studies hold Korean language courses for the UAIC students, promoting Korean culture in the Iasi academia.

„The talks also focused on the activity of the Center for Korean Studies (ROK) – established in 2018 at the UAIC as part of a project financed by the Academy of Korean Studies through the Seed Program for Korean studies. Within the ROK Center, courses are held (Elements of Korean history and civilization, Korean culture and civilization over time, Economic and societal development in Korea, Korean literature, art and thought), research activities and training of specialists in the area of Korean studies by creating an international team of researchers in the area, scientific events and cultural activities are organized and student scholarships are awarded,” the press release states.

The Ambassador of the Republic of Korea to Romania will participate, today, at the Senate Hall, in a dialogue with members of the academic community of the UAIC about the Conflict in Ukraine and its implications. The event is part of the programme of the Korean Culture Festival, organized between October 29 and 31 by the Center for Korean Studies within the „Alexandru Ioan Cuza” University, in collaboration with the Embassy of the Republic of Korea in Bucharest.
