Kuwaiti Prime Minister Ahmad Nawah al-Sabah presented the resignation of the government to Crown Prince Meshal al-Ahmad al-Sabah on Monday, Reuters reports, Agerpres reads.
The prince, who took over most of the duties of Emir Nawaf Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, appointed Sheikh Ahmad as prime minister last year and called early parliamentary elections to end disputes over tax reforms.
Tensions between the parliament and the government that began its mandate in October resurfaced recently, after deputies insisted on a debt cancellation project, according to which the state would buy back the personal debts of citizens, and demanded to hear two ministers.
The prime minister resigned, together with the entire cabinet, „as a result of the situation in which the relationship between the executive and legislative authorities has reached”, according to a government statement taken by Reuters from the KUNA agency.
