Minister of Labour Florin Manole held talks in Doha with the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada, on strengthening bilateral cooperation in the field of labour.
„I had a very good discussion on Monday with the Union Minister of State in the Ministry of Commerce and Industry, Jitin Prasada. During the second World Summit for Social Development, organised by the UN in Doha, Qatar, we discussed bilateral cooperation in the field of labour between Romania and India. Our country hosts Indian workers who contribute daily to the development of our economy in construction, industry and services. It is important for this collaboration to be fair, based on respect and the observance of the rights of every working person,” Florin Manole wrote on his Facebook page on Tuesday.
European Commission Vice-President Roxana Minzatu, responsible for social rights and skills, quality jobs and training, is representing the European Union at the second World Social Summit. Organised under the aegis of the United Nations, the event brings together leaders from 154 countries to reaffirm their commitment to critical social goals: combating poverty and hunger, promoting social justice, employment and education.
„I represent the European Union at the second World Social Summit. (…) It has been three decades since this type of meeting was last held. In the meantime, humanity has seen both progress and regression when it comes to wellbeing and human dignity. Eight hundred million people live in extreme poverty. Two billion are food insecure. Climate change, conflicts and geostrategic developments will worsen this situation unless countries act together, in a coordinated and multilateral framework, to place social progress at the heart of all political and economic efforts. It was therefore time to hold such a high-level meeting on social issues,” Roxana Minzatu wrote on Facebook.
According to her, globally, the European Union and its member states are the largest contributors to the UN – accounting for one fifth of membership dues and one third of voluntary contributions.
„Europe is the world’s largest provider of development assistance – EUR 90 billion annually. The European social model, which balances economic competitiveness and social fairness, as embodied in the European Pillar of Social Rights, represents the vision we propose to our international partners.
