President Klaus Iohannis promulgated on Friday the law stipulating that underage mothers having turned 16 will be able to decide for themselves and their child in their dealings with state institutions and in obtaining financial rights, such as the state allowance for children or the monthly child-raising benefit.
The act complements Law No 272/2004 on the protection and promotion of the rights of the child.
„Minor mothers, who have reached the age of 16, have the right to decide about their child, and may sign medical and/or administrative documents related to the care, upbringing and development of the child,” the law states.
Also, „in the case of minor mothers who have reached the age of 16, the child-raising benefit, the state allowance for the child, both for the mothers and their child/children, as well as any other legal financial rights enjoyed by their child/children shall be granted to the mothers, at their request”.AGERPRES
