Less than three quarters of Romanians connected to water supply system in 2021

The population connected to the public water supply system represented 74.1 percent of Romania’s resident population in 2021, according to a press release of the National Institute of Statistics (INS) sent to AGERPRES on Friday.

In 2021, the population connected to the public water supply system amounted to 14,177,807 persons, representing 74.1 percent of Romania’s resident population, 240,889 persons more than in 2020.

The increase was determined by the connection of the population to the newly built water supply networks.

At development region level, in 2021, the highest share of population connected to the public water supply system in the total resident population was registered in Bucharest-Ilfov region (88.7 percent), followed by the South-East region (88.2 percent).

The lowest level of connection was recorded in the North-East region (52.6 percent), followed by the South-West Oltenia region (62.3 percent).
