Ludovic Orban: Romania’s non-acceptance in Schengen – major failure of PSD-PNL-UDMR coalition, president Klaus Iohannis

Published on

The president of the Force of the Right Party, Ludovic Orban, said that Romania’s non-acceptance in Schengen represents a major failure of the current PSD-PNL-UDMR coalition and „an unforgivable failure of the one who should lead the foreign policy of the country – president Iohannis”, according to Agerpres.

„Today, two countries voted against: Austria and the Netherlands. The first voted explicitly against Romania, the second voted against because Romania was in the package with Bulgaria. Austria’s opposition completely surprised the Romanian officials and represents a change of position that it was not anticipated by the leaders of Romanian diplomacy, who reacted late and clumsily. The Dutch opposition is due to Iohannis’ decision to remain coupled with Bulgaria in the vote on accession to the Schengen area, although it was known that the Netherlands would not vote for Bulgaria’s accession, so neither for Romania,” Orban wrote on Facebook.

He appreciated that Austria and the Netherlands have no serious grounds for their vote against Romania’s accession to Schengen, adding that this is the „result of the ineffective action” of the leaders of Romanian diplomacy.

In Ludovic Orban’s opinion, the governing coalition must publicly accept this failure and not exclude the possibility of appealing the decision at Court of Justice of the EU.
