Unaffiliated MEP Luis-Vicențiu Lazarus (NI) has a position on cutting red tape and simplifying doing business in the EU: the first Omnibus proposals, predicting that Europe’s business environment needs real simplification of administrative procedures, removal of unnecessary barriers and reduction of the tax burden, not just new promises that do not translate into concrete measures.

In theory, the European Union should be an area of free movement of goods, services and capital. In practice, however, entrepreneurs and small and medium-sized enterprises are faced with a veritable bureaucratic maze which hampers their activity and limits their competitiveness.
The first Omnibus proposals on cutting red tape are a step in the right direction, but we need to make sure that they do not remain just on paper. Europe’s businesses need real simplification of administrative procedures, removal of unnecessary barriers and reduction of tax burdens, not just more promises that are not translated into action.
I call for: EU regulations and directives to be simplified so that businesses are no longer burdened with complicated reports and procedures.
Then, access to finance should be facilitated, especially for SMEs, by reducing bureaucratic requirements for European funds and support schemes.
Taxation and fees need to be harmonized in a fair way, without excessively burdening small businesses in favour of large corporations.
Economic freedom must be protected, and environmental measures must not become an additional burden for producers and traders.
If we want a competitive Europe, we need to remove barriers to private initiative, put an end to excessive regulation and support entrepreneurs who create jobs and economic development.
The European Union must not be an obstacle to business, but a catalyst for real economic growth.
