MAE condemns Russian attack on grain ship in Black Sea

Romania’s Foreign Ministry (MAE) has voiced firm condemnation of an attack by the Russian armed forces against a ship carrying grain in the Black Sea.

„This event is unprecedented escalation of the Russian Federation’s actions in the framework of the illegal and unjustified war it has launched against Ukraine. The deliberate attack on a commercial ship is a serious violation of the rules of international humanitarian law that regulate the conduct of war at sea,” the Romanian ministry says.

MAE firmly calls on the Russian Federation to cease any attack on commercial ships and to respect the freedom of navigation of the nations in the Black Sea.

It also condemns the Russian Federation’s violation of the United Nations Charter by systematically and irresponsibly bombing Ukrainian infrastructure and ships transporting grain. It says the actions of the Russian Federation threaten global food security.
