Romania has been closely monitoring developments in the Middle East since they began to escalate, and the main immediate concern of the Romanian authorities is the safety of Romanian citizens in the Middle East, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAE) said on Sunday.

„Romania has been closely monitoring developments in the Middle East since they began to escalate (…). The main immediate concern of the Romanian authorities is the safety of Romanian citizens in the Middle East, and we will continue to apply the most effective measures to protect them in the current circumstances,” the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in a press release sent to AGERPRES.

According to the cited source, Romanian authorities are in constant contact with NATO allies and other EU members and are ready to support a negotiated solution.

„We are in constant contact with NATO allies and other EU members and are ready to support a negotiated solution. We join the calls made to all regional actors to show maximum restraint and avoid provocative actions,” the press release said.

According to MAE, Romania’s consistent position has been that Iran’s nuclear program contravenes the international obligations that this state has assumed.

„Romania’s consistent position has been that Iran’s nuclear program contravenes the international obligations that this state has assumed, undermines the global non-proliferation regime, and poses a threat to international security. This program must be stopped. The recent actions of the US are aimed at eliminating a serious threat to international peace,” the MAE emphasizes.
