President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, sent a message on Monday on the occasion of Romania’s National Day, underlining the importance of the historic moment of December 1, 1918, which opened the way to peace, freedom and democracy for the Romanian people. The head of the neighboring state warns, in a Facebook post, that these values are currently „threatened more than ever.”

In the complicated international context, Maia Sandu affirms that today’s generations have the responsibility to honor through actions the efforts and sacrifices of those who made the historic decision of Alba Iulia possible. She urges the defense of this legacy, in order to ensure a Romanian space for children and grandchildren in which they can live freely, with dignity and with respect for national values.
