The President of the Republic of Moldova, Maia Sandu, welcomed on Thursday the decision by the Cypriot Presidency of the Council of the European Union to begin preparations for opening the first chapters of negotiations with the Republic of Moldova, describing it as a clear signal of support for the country’s European path.
According to Maia Sandu, the decision reflects the unity and determination of the European Union and confirms that the Republic of Moldova is ready for the next stage of accession negotiations.
The President made these remarks during a meeting with Marta Kos, the European Commissioner for Enlargement, on the sidelines of the Moldova-European Union Investment Conference held in Chisinau, according to a press release from the Presidency of the Republic of Moldova.
The discussions focused on ongoing reforms, the alignment of national legislation with the EU acquis, and the next steps in the EU accession process. Maia Sandu reaffirmed the authorities’ commitment to continuing reforms, including in sensitive areas such as the judiciary and local public administration.
At the economic conference, significant commitments were announced by private companies and development banks. Maia Sandu emphasized that these investments reflect the concrete benefits of the European path, such as job creation and economic development.
