Romania’s Defence Ministry (MApN) on Wednesday requested Parliament’s prior approval for the initiation of the procedure for awarding a procurement contract for 44 AAV-7 assault amphibious vehicles.
MApN has sent a letter to the leadership of the two chambers of Parliament in which it requests prior approval for the initiation of the procedure for awarding the contract for the procurement of 44 AAV-7 assault amphibious vehicles from the Marine Corps of the United States of America, under the Foreign Military Sales security assistance programme, of an estimated value of USD 210 million, VAT excluded.
Romania’s Supreme Council for National Defence (CSAT) has approved a memorandum supplementing AAV-7 assault amphibious vehicles.
„The defence equipment acquisition for the creation of flexible force structures, with means to ensure their survival in the tactical field, with mobility and extensive situational awareness and increased firepower, requires the operationalisation of the capability targets pledged to NATO and EU defence planning process for the achievement of the objectives in the programme on the transformation of the Romanian armed forces until 2040,” the letter reads.
The Parliament’s standing bureaus have decided to send the request to the defence committees to draw up a report. It is to be included on the agenda of a joint plenary session on Monday.
