MApN: Russian attacks on Ukrainian Danube ports; drone entered national airspace near Sfantu Gheorghe

Two F-16 aircraft stationed at Fetesti Air Base were scrambled after Ministry of National Defence (MApN) radars detected a drone on Wednesday in an area adjacent to Romania’s national airspace, with a RO-ALERT warning issued to residents in the northern part of Tulcea County.

The Russian Federation launched on Wednesday new air attacks on Ukrainian ports along the Danube.

‘Ministry of National Defence radars detected the presence of a drone in an area adjacent to national airspace, which led to the preventive activation of anti-aircraft defence systems. At around 17:50, two F-16 aircraft stationed at Fetesti Air Base were scrambled in accordance with air policing procedures. At 18:07, a RO-ALERT message was issued for the population in the northern part of Tulcea County,’ the Ministry of National Defence said in a press release.

According to the cited source, the unmanned aerial vehicle briefly entered national airspace in the area of Sfantu Gheorghe, without posing any danger to people’s lives, and exited north of Sulina, flying only above territorial waters.

Alert measures were lifted at around 18:45 and no debris from aerial vehicles was identified in the area.

The Ministry of National Defence firmly condemns the Russian Federation’s attacks on Ukrainian civilian infrastructure, actions which constitute a serious violation of international law and a threat to regional security, the release added.
