Marc Angel elected Vice-President of the European Parliament

Published on

Marc Angel has taken office as the new Vice-President of the European Parliament, in anticipation of his portfolio assignment by President Metsola. The newly elected Vice-President replaces Eva Kaili (NA, EL) as the fifth VP in the Parliament’s Bureau, according to the European Parliament’s official website.

On Wednesday, in a secret vote, Marc Angel (S&D, LU) received an absolute majority of votes cast and was elected to the office of European Parliament Vice-President, following two rounds of voting.

Eva Kaili has been Member of the European Parliament since 2014 and was a member of the Progressive Alliance of Socialists and Democrats (S&D) group until her expulsion in 2022.

On 9 December 2022, Kaili was arrested by Belgian Federal Police following an investigation into organized crime, corruption and money laundering tied to lobbying efforts in support of Qatar.
