President Klaus Iohannis has appointed Marcel Ciolacu, chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), as prime minister.

„The pro-European coalition has proposed a candidate that I have decided to accept,” the head of state said on Monday at the Cotroceni Presidential Palace.

This morning, PSD, the National Liberal Party (PNL), the Hungarian Democratic Union of Romania (UDMR) and the leaders of the national minorities signed a political agreement in Parliament, prior to the formation of the governing coalition.
