Marcel Ciolacu: In next two years, TAROM can become air carrier capable of sustaining its development

Published on

Prime Minister Marcel Ciolacu said on Monday that TAROM can become again, in the next two years, an air carrier „capable of sustaining its development through its own economic performance,” in the context of the European Commission’s announcement on the approval of Romania’s plans to grant the company a state aid of up to 95.3 million euros.

„We have obtained the European Commission’s acceptance to support TAROM with almost 100 million euros! It is a national brand in which I will continue to believe! With this money, we want to build a modern and efficient company, fully digitised and adapted to a market where competition is tougher than ever. In the next two years, TAROM can once again become an air carrier capable of sustaining its development through its own economic performance,” Ciolacu wrote on Facebook on Monday.

He added that he has a duty, as prime minister, to support „a traditional Romanian national company.”

The European Commission on Monday approved Romania’s plans to grant state-owned national air carrier TAROM restructuring aid worth up to 95.3 million euros (473.69 million lei) under EU state aid rules, a press release from the EC said.
