Marius Budai: There will be draft normative bill on special pensions, we continue discussions with European Commission

Published on

The minister of Labour, Marius Budai, said on Monday that there will be a draft law on special pensions, and discussions on this topic with the European Commission continue, according to Agerpres.

„The leaders of the coalition, (PSD’s) Marcel Ciolacu and (PNL’s) Nicolae Ciuca, decided very clearly that it will not be an emergency ordinance, it will be a draft normative act. Tonight we will have another video call with the European Commission, where we discuss, we still have some requested clarifications. I informed them that we also had the visit of World Bank specialists from Washington to the Ministry of Labor, we are in close contact with the Commission. I repeat, the Commission’s request was not necessarily for December 31, 2022, but for a normative act draft that respects what was written in the PNRR and we are now on this line with the Commission,” Budai said in the Parliament.

According to him, „there is absolutely no risk” of Romania losing money.

When asked what will happen to the pensions of parliamentarians and local elected officials, the minister of Labor pointed out that „now they are not caught in the PNRR”.

„We have not discussed these aspects now. (…) It will be a draft law initiated by the Government, then sent for debate, as is normal, in Parliament,” stated Marius Budai.
