Memorial services held in memory of the victims of Colectiv club fire

Published on

Dozens of people participated on Sunday in the memorial services held in memory of the victims of the Collective Club, in the courtyard of the Saint Nicholas Church – Brosteni, but also in front of the former hall of the Pionierul factory, where the fire broke out on 30 October 2015, Agerpres reports.

As of 12:00hrs, in the courtyard of the Church of Saint Nicholas – Brosteni, a synod made up of eight priests officiated the memorial service, in front of the monument, as well as the roadside crucifix dedicated to those who lost their lives in the fire seven years ago. A wreath of white roses was laid at the respective monument on behalf of Patriarch Daniel.

As of 13:00hrs, a memorial service was also held outside the former club Colectiv. The portraits of the 65 victims of the fire were also placed here. As of 18:00hrs, the relatives and friends of those who died in the tragedy of October 2015 will carry these portraits to the General Prosecutor’s Office, as part of a protest organized by Corruption Kills, the Romania Initiative and Geeks For Democracy. The organizers criticize the fact that „the #collective case was superficially handled, procrastinated, divided,” and the problem of the healthcare system, that of beds and hospitals for burns, of nosocomial infections „is far from being solved” after seven years. At the same time, „the functioning of public spaces is still allowed without ensuring protection against fires and emergency situations,” the protest’s organizers wrote on Facebook.

Wreaths were laid in front of the former club Colectiv on behalf of the Presidency, the Government, the Senate, the Chamber of Deputies, and Patriarch Daniel.

On 30 October 2015, the tragedy at the Collective Club in Bucharest took place, the biggest fire in a club around the country and the biggest accident after 1989, resulting in 64 deaths and 163 injured persons.
