Social Democratic Party (PSD) MEP Victor Negrescu has announced, on the occasion of Europe Day, the launch of „EU Story”, a project through which he aims to tell, in a way that everyone can understand, what EU membership means in concrete terms.
„May 9 – Europe Day is more than a date on the calendar. It is a vivid reminder of the courage to build peace, of the hope that unity is stronger than hatred and of the belief that together we can overcome any crisis. Also on this day, Romania is celebrating its independence obtained in the 19th century, when it asserted its place with dignity among free nations. Today, with this hard-won sovereignty, we have chosen to be part of the greatest project of solidarity and cooperation in the world, the European Union. Europe is not a given. It is a choice. A living construction that must be defended every day, with deeds, with solidarity and with our voice,” Negrescu wrote on Facebook on Friday.
He added that, unfortunately, one can see how extremism is growing and denying the existence of the European Union and how people’s legitimate frustration is being manipulated to weaken the very thing that holds us together.
„But Europe is not the presumed culprit. Europe is us. With all that we do well. With all the opportunities we have. With everything we can build together. That is why I am launching the „EU Story” series, a project through which I want to tell, for everyone to understand, what EU membership means in concrete terms. With clear examples. With meaning. With heart. Because Europe needs Romania. And Romania needs to believe more in itself. Happy birthday, Europe! Happy birthday Romanians who believe in the common good,” he added.
