Social Democratic Party (PSD) MEP Victor Negrescu has announced that he initiated, with the support of 55 MEPs from 19 countries, a joint letter to European Council President Antonio Costa, requesting the immediate opening of accession negotiations on the acquis chapters with the Republic of Moldova.

„I have initiated, with the support of 55 MEPs from 19 countries, who represent the main democratic political families, a joint letter to European Council President Antonio Costa, requesting the immediate opening of accession negotiations on the acquis chapters with the Republic of Moldova. It is a strong political signal: the European Parliament endorses unreservedly the European future of the Republic of Moldova, acknowledges the reforms made and asks that the option of the Moldovan citizens, which was expressed through the result of the parliamentary elections, to be capitalized on and observed,” Vice-President of the European Parliament Victor Negrescu said in a message posted on his Facebook page on Sunday.

He mentioned that this initiative is endorsed by some important leaders of the European Parliament and proves Europe’s unity and solidarity with the Republic of Moldova in a decisive moment for the entire region.

„The European Union must act now to prove its support for the democracy, resilience and European ambitions of the citizens of the Republic of Moldova,” Victor Negrescu said. AGERPRES
