MEP Siegfried Muresan is running on Wednesday for a new mandate as Vice-Chairman of the European People’s Party (EPP) Group, the largest political group in the European Parliament.
In a Facebook post, he outlined his objectives for the new mandate, including „supporting” the creation of a pro-European majority in the European Parliament, made up of the EPP Group, the European Socialists and the Renew Group.
„In the next mandate, I propose: To further defend the European funds allocated to Romania; To further defend the interests of Romanian farmers; To support the creation of a pro-European majority in the European Parliament, made up of the EPP Group, the European Socialists and the Renew Group. Thus, extremist, anti-European MEPs, such as AUR [the Alliance for Romanians’ Union], will be isolated and will not be able to influence European decisions; Support the Republic of Moldova in the process of accession to the European Union,” he reveals on Facebook.
In his previous mandate, Muresan coordinated the EPP group’s positions on the EU budget and European agricultural policy.
„Through this position, I obtained the support of the EPP Group on all important votes in the European Parliament on the allocation of European funds for Romania. I also obtained the support of the EPP Group for defending the interests of Romanian farmers and for supporting the European integration of the Republic of Moldova,” Muresan points out.
