Middle East crisis/Foreign Affairs Minister Toiu: 14,000 Romanian citizens in United Arab Emirates

Published on

There are currently 14,000 Romanian citizens in the United Arab Emirates, with only a very small number of extreme emergency cases reported, Foreign Affairs Minister Oana Toiu said on Monday.

„The authorities’ assessment is that, for the time being, remaining in their current location is the recommended option for Romanian citizens,” the head of Romanian diplomacy stated during a press briefing.

Oana Toiu added that there are approximately 200 Romanian citizens in Israel, 140 of whom are in Jerusalem. In addition, there are Romanian nationals holding dual citizenship.

Among those in Israel, four urgent medical cases have been identified, she said. Evacuation from Israel could be carried out via Egypt or Jordan, Toiu added.

According to the minister, an emergency meeting with transport operators is scheduled for Monday in order to identify solutions for the return of Romanian citizens from areas affected by the conflict in the Middle East.
